Tequila Museum
The Tequila Museum sits in the heart of the town of Tequila, Jalisco — the birthplace of Mexico's most famous spirit and a UNESCO-designated agave cultural landscape. The museum was established in 2000 to document the full story of tequila: from the ancient Aztec ceremonial use of agave, through the colonial period when distillation techniques transformed fermented pulque into mezcal and eventually into the blue agave-specific spirit that became tequila, to the modern global industry that now exports over 300 million litres annually.
The museum occupies a beautifully restored 18th-century hacienda and features working distillation equipment, a living agave garden with plants ranging from 2 to 12 years old, and a tasting room with over 400 tequila expressions.
